Nestled on a ridge overlooking the Snoqualmie Valley, with incredible views of Mount Si and the surrounding Cascade Mountains, it is no surprise that The Club at Snoqualmie Ridge is among the most scenic golf courses in Washington. And there could hardly be a better place for this lovely pair of avid golfers who both call Snoqualmie Ridge home to get married. So on a pleasantly warm late summer day, in front of close family and friends, Debra and Peter were married in an intimate ceremony overlooking the mountains.
Having both lost their first spouses to the same form of cancer 7 years ago, it is as if these two were meant to find each other. They are among the kindest couples I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with and even though they found each other a bit later in life, they also share an endearing energy and playfulness (referencing their surprise transition right after their first dance here!) that made them even more fun to be around. But in the face of so much excitement about their upcoming wedding, their resolve would be tested. In the weeks leading up to the wedding, both of their families suffered sudden, tragic losses. There was discussion about possibly postponing the wedding. And here I find myself at a loss for words to adequately describe the heartache that both families must have felt at a time when their lives should have been full of excitement and joy. It truly breaks my heart. But this wedding is a shining example of how out of such tragedy can come triumph. This day became so much more than a marriage between two people. It was a chance for two families to celebrate their coming together and to celebrate the new bonds that form. It was a chance to show their love and support for each other and lift each other up. Our time on earth is fleeting and every opportunity we have to gather those we love together in one place, even if for a few hours is a gift, a thing to be treasured and remembered for the rest of our lives.
Congratulations Debra and Peter! Your wedding has touched and inspired me in ways that no other wedding before has and it has reminded me of why I do what I do. Wishing you and your families all of my best. May you find peace, joy, and strength in each other. Enjoy a sneak peek at a few of the many highlights from your beautiful day!
