I love photographing couples in the rain, especially here in Snoqualmie with the beautiful trees and mountains fading into the grayness… There’s just something inherently romantic about being able to block out everything except the most important thing in world – the person right in front of you, the one you chose to marry and spend the rest of your life with… That’s all that matters. And being surrounded by rain actually highlights your love for each other even more. Looking back, I’m not sure if Sara and Max even felt a single drop out there. And believe me, there were plenty of drops falling! By all accounts, it was a very typical fall day in the foothills east of Seattle, with intermittent rain, fog and a pretty much uniformly gray sky. With water dripping off of their hair and faces, wet clothes and shoes, Sara and Max celebrated their wedding day as if it were the middle of summer. They embraced the cold, the mud, and the damp and reveled in it. And it was awesome!

We found a beautiful spot in the forest in Snoqualmie just a quarter of a mile down a trail to have their intimate ceremony. There, under a canopy of great moss-covered Western Cedar and surrounded by plenty of newly fallen leaves, Sara and Max were married. It was a very small gathering. Including myself, there were only 8 of us there and with the wet weather, we were virtually the only ones out. In the background, there were only the faint sounds of the forest, mingled with the sound of raindrops falling on leaves and dripping from branches. It was a perfect Pacific Northwest day. I remember when I first met Max and Sara and Max was telling me how Sara just makes him feel so happy in every way when he is around her. After seeing how happy these two are together as they celebrated their wedding in the rain, I couldn’t agree more.
