I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll probably keep on saying it in the years ahead too. Winter is my favorite season and likely always will be. I love the snow mingled with evergreen trees most of all, but I also love the crisp, cold air that makes your breath fog up. I love the look of newly fallen snow covering everything in a fresh coat of white and I love frozen, iced-over lakes and ponds giving off abstract reflections. I love the look of evergreens when they become pure white with frost and snow and oh my gosh I love the look of waterfalls icing over – just beautiful! Snoqualmie Falls had some of that just over a month ago.

Yep, I’ll take 20F any day over 80F! I guess I’m probably in the minority, but Winter has been my favorite season as far back as I can remember. And it is a beautiful time for photographs (although admittedly a bit more complicated than a Summer or Fall outing for sure)! So when Emily and Chris reached out about an engagement session in the snow, needless to say, I was pretty excited! These two have spent some time in places like Michigan and Pennsylvania, so they are used to seeing some snow every winter. Speaking of, Winter has been a fickle thing this year in the Pacific Northwest. We had a nice taste of Winter in December, but then for most of January (and now February too), Winter has seemingly “left the building.” But venture a bit into the mountains (literally just a few miles up I90) and there is still plenty of snow left, so we met up on the Eastern side of the Cascades near Cle Elum with our snowshoes and had a blast exploring the deep crust. The lake looked beautiful with ice covering most of it and snowmobiles had packed things down a bit on the beach, so we were able to take the snowshoes off for a bit as well, which I have to say is a welcome relief! At the end, Emily wore a beautiful green velvet dress! They both looked amazing and I loved capturing the love they share for each other. The playful images are some of my favorites too!
