Some things are just meant to be. External factors might try and derail them. Whether it’s unexpected basement flooding that almost makes you have to cancel or postpone your honeymoon, a dress that got left behind in the airbnb, heavy Seattle area traffic, construction delays at Mount Rainier, or a view-blocking forecast that forces a rescheduling… but try as they might, these external factors can really only delay the inevitable, because as I said before, some things are just meant to be. Like this breathtaking Mount Rainier adventure.
We ascended the steep trail (once we finally found the correct trail, that is😂) as if we were on a mission. And oh yes, it was quite steep and a bit slippery with the footing since it had rained a few days prior. Sunset was approaching and we wanted to make sure we still had a good amount of time to spend at our destination, so we kept going at a good pace. And when we arrived, the view was absolutely incredible! The glassy reflections of Mount Rainier on the water were beyond breathtaking! And these two looked absolutely amazing celebrating their wedding in front of the mountain with the tallest prominence in the lower 48 states.
I love how the mountain changes color with the changing light, especially as the sun dips low and then drops below the horizon. Mount Rainier is such a special place and while I’ve seen it so many times from different angles and different light, it captivates me every time.
Afterwards, we donned our headlamps and started our careful descent down the field of rocks towards our cars. At one point, I remember glancing across a large rock-strewn valley after hearing what sounded like a large animal from far away, perhaps a bear. It turns out it was just a park ranger sliding down a huge sloped boulder, poles in hand and then quickly moving through the rock and brush. Clearly, he was in his element! I had actually seen him multiple times that day! And then we all saw him back at the parking area again and he thanked us for packing everything in, including her bouquet. It’s a good reminder for all that we need to be sure to leave no trace behind so that we can keep these places pristine for future generations too.
Thank you both for the wonderful adventure! I’m so glad we got the chance to visit Mount Rainier and capture these images for you to remember your wedding and honeymoon! You make such a lovely couple and it was a lot of fun spending the evening with both of you! Congratulations you two and wishing you all the best in your new lives together as husband and wife!
