There’s something almost magical about the fog and rain high up in the mountains. It creates a sort of silence that is uniquely its own. Even though there is the sound of raindrops hitting the ground and running water funneling and collecting in streams, everything else is muffled as if you are hearing it from underneath a thick blanket, creating a calming sense of stillness and quiet that is unlike anything else. So it was on the day these two eloped in the North Cascades. We quite literally had the entire place to ourselves and in that moment, in that valley surrounded by mountain peaks and thick fog, with an icy rain coming down, it was as if the entire world outside had retreated into the distance and it was just this lovely couple together in a landscape that melted away to gray. In the rain.
We started the day at the place they rented in Glacier. A steady rain had developed early that afternoon as we headed out from there towards Mount Baker and as we arrived at our destination, the rain seemed to be coming down in sheets and the temperature had dropped to 40F. We waited in our cars for about 15 minutes, hoping the rain might let up at least a little (it did not) and then we decided to go for it. And it was absolutely incredible! To be honest, having come all the way from Georgia to elope in the North Cascades, I don’t think any kind of weather could have kept these two from experiencing this together in such a beautiful place!
So, under cover of umbrella, they read their vows to each other and exchanged rings as the rain continued to fall and gusts of wind whipped over the peaks and through the valleys. We explored what we could and when the fog became almost impossibly thick, we drove back down until we were below the fog and explored a beautiful valley graced with vibrant oranges and reds. We ditched the umbrellas and just went for it! They kissed, they danced, and they celebrated in the cold, pouring rain until darkness crept in and our fingers were numb. They both looked absolutely amazing! I loved his maroon suit and her long, flowey dress with beautiful flower crown! The shrug she wore for warmth went perfectly with her dress and probably saved the day too! They had wanted an elopement with a feel similar to The Office’s Jim & Pam (who eloped under Niagara Falls) and I think we pretty much nailed that, complete with torrents of water coming down on us! 😉
Thank you both for entrusting me to capture your elopement day! It was so much fun working with you and planning this amazing day! I’m so glad we pretty much gave the weather the finger and went for it anyway! You both looked so good out there and you are a truly wonderful, sweet couple. Thank you and congratulations!!! Wishing you all the best in your new lives together as husband and wife! Enjoy a peak at a few of the many highlights from your elopement day!
