So this is it! The ceremony, the tearful vidai, a few quick couple photographs around the hotel, and then the big party! There really were so many amazing photographs from this wedding – narrowing down to post just a few was quite a task in and of itself! Enjoy the sneak peek!
Don’t forget to check out The Mehndi Ceremony and Making of the Bride Ceremonie. Also, Part I of Tina & Niraj’s Wedding Day can be seen by clicking here.
During an Indian or Hindu Wedding Ceremony, the bride and groom walk around a small fire (and in this case, the chairs too) held together by the thread (shown below called the bandhan) 4 times before sitting back down. Of course, sitting down first is recommended as it confers certain… well, lets just say Niraj seems pretty happy about the outcome here! I don’t know – it looked awfully close to me!
The Vidai or farewell of the bride. This is an emotional part of the wedding where the bride leaves her family to join her new husband. I have to say a few additional words about this part of the ceremony… You see, as a wedding photographer, you often don’t have time to process what you see during the event – you are busy capturing things as they occur – finding the angles, lighting, composition, etc. And as anyone who was at this wedding can attest, I get around! I shot this image below (and dozens more emotional moments of the Vidai) and continued about my work. When I looked at this image during the editing phase, my eyes started watering. There is so much emotion in her eyes that you just can’t help but shed a tear as well. Gets me every time!
Now that the bride and groom have made it to their get-away car, a sleek yellow corvette, the cousins of bride now stand in the way to block their departure! I think Niraj had to resort to a little bribery to get through…!
Off they go!
After going for a spin in the Corvette, Tina & Niraj changed into their Wedding Reception clothes.
There were many amazing dance performances by friends and family – it was incredible!
thanks james – amazing photos, they turned out really nice!! I can’t wait to see the rest of them.
Really great colors and composition! A fantastic spectacle and you captured so many candid and memorable moments.
