Perched on top of a cliff overlooking the Columbia River Gorge is a historic mansion called the Griffin House. It sits on the Oregon side of the river, where you can gaze across the water to the Washington side and watch the windsurfers far out there in the distance capitalizing on the steady gusts that whip through the gorge. And it is the beautiful venue where Elizabeth (Lizzy) and Nathan (Nate) read each other their wedding vows on that windswept bluff, pausing occasionally a particularly strong gust would blow through. With the sun setting to the Northwest, behind the Cascade mountain foothills along the southern edge of Washington, it truly was an idyllic setting. The twisted, windswept pine trees, the moss growing on the rocks (now golden brown from the hot, dry summer), and the view along the Gorge and it’s massive expanse of water, meandering westward towards Portland and eventually emptying in the Pacific… it is a place of incredible beauty, a place where nature’s awesome power and breathtakingly tranquil views collide. And it was the perfect place for this outdoor adventure-loving couple to become husband and wife.
Really, it was perfect in every way… her dress, his blue tux, the ceremony on the lawn, the toasts, the sunset, and the dancing and celebration with friends and family that followed. In a year that has brought far more challenges than we ever thought it would, it was heartwarming to see that celebration again – people coming together, often from places far away, dancing, toasting, and celebrating the marriage of this absolutely lovely couple! And when they climbed onto the rocks as the sun was dipping over the nearby mountains with the wind tossing Lizzy’s hair around… so beautiful!!!
Congratulations Lizzy and Nate! You make such a wonderful couple and I had a wonderful time with you and your friends and family! Thank you so much for the opportunity to photograph your wedding day and for the warm welcome I felt from you and your guests throughout the day as well! Enjoy your first sneak peek at a few of the many highlights and there is much more coming soon!
