When it comes to engagement sessions, I’m always up for making an adventure of it. Heading up into the mountains here in the Pacific Northwest with all of the incredible forests (arguably the most beautiful forests in the world), epic views, and abundant alpine lakes… it really doesn’t get any better than that! And working up a little sweat to get there makes it all the more sweet when you see the sun setting in spectacular fashion over a gorgeous landscape stretching out before you. So when Lindsay and Ricky opted to have their engagement session at Snoqualmie Falls and Rattlesnake Lake (including a hike up to the ledge), I was super excited! We had to postpone a few weekends on account of weather, which actually worked out perfectly to provide some beautiful fall colors for us as well!
Starting off with a family session around the lower Snoqualmie Falls (see my previous post), Lindsay and Ricky braved some super slippery logs, mud, and brush, to make it out to the giant boulder for some epic photographs at the base of the falls. I kid you not, these logs were so slippery, they might as well have been covered in ice! Then, it was up to Rattlesnake Lake for a change of clothes and a 2-mile hike almost 1200 feet up to the ledge. Sunset was approaching, so we had to keep a pretty quick pace, emerging at the ledge just before sunset, as the last rays of sun were still blanketing the mountain peaks to the east. It was seriously amazing!!! I loved Lindsay’s blue flowey dress! It really popped against the green forest background and they both looked spectacular up on the ledge! Rattlesnake Lake has a much different look in the fall – some years almost completely drying out, revealing a sea of tree stumps, remnants of an old logging town that was abandoned and covered by water over 100 years ago. We stayed up there post sunset and into twilight a little before getting our headlamps out and heading back down the trail.
Thank you both for the amazing adventure! I had an incredible time with you! Enjoy a sneak peek at a few of the many highlights!
Yes, these logs are soooo slippery!!! This time of year, the sun never shines on this side of the canyon, so the logs stay wet. In April, the water level will probably cover this area too! I love how the seasons bring so much change!
Amazing views of Mount Si can be had from Rattlesnake Ridge. I love how the last rays of sunlight for the day create the perfect highlight.
